Flash vs. HTML5

After reading a few articles about Flash (old) and HTML5 (new), I’d have to say that I come down on the side of new. As a novice designer, I am encouraged by the fact that HTML5 will be a welcomed, and universal, platform by all web browsers and mobile apps. Although I am not a big fan of Apple, I’d have to commend their stance on pushing towards the future of web browsing. I found it quite interesting that mobile devices are now pioneering the route in which all computers will follow. Flash has long been the standard, and dare I say, monopolized the technology by which dynamic graphics and videos make their way to our computer screens; however, this has not been very compatible for mobile devices, which are becoming increasingly popular. If HTML5 is all what it is promising to be, this is exciting news for developers--knowing their “works of art” will display on all computer screens, both large and small. I am a huge fan of Adobe products, but it seems to me they could have seen this coming, and put their creative genius minds to work on a more “user friendly” platform to allow for great web designs to be displayed on your computer, and mine.

Day Two

Today is the second day of a new class, Interactive Media. During the course of this class, I hope to have a strong understanding of what it takes to create, design, and implement a user friendly website.
A few sites that I enjoy and give some inspiration to me are:
http://www.wildernessawareness.org
http://kids.yahoo.com/science
http://www.planet-earth-clothing.com/
I chose these sites because of their mixture of pleasingly visual effects, the user friendliness, and the content.
